Marriage
To get married in Japan, you submit a Notification of Marriage Form to the City Office. The form is available at the City Office and each branch Office. Foreigners wanting to get married need documentation proving they are eligible to get married.

The "Certificate of Acceptance of Marriage Registration" confirming the marriage has been entered into is received after submitting the Notification of Marriage Form. To change status of residence to that of the spouse of a Japanese national, contact the relevant Regional Immigration Services Bureau. |

Notification of Divorce Form
If both parties agree to a divorce, they file a notification of divorce at the City Office.
The necessary documents are different in the cases of divorce between a foreign national and a Japanese national, or between two foreign nationals. Please contact the Citizens Section for details about the necessary documents.
